Over the summer I was fortunate to travel to Honduras on a mission trip with Gesu Parish. I had no idea what to expect, I'd never been to Central America. We stayed at an orphanage called Sociedad Amigos de Los Niños. This is an orphanage for Honduras' most needy children from birth through high school. It was founded by Sister Maria Rose, and since its establishement over 40 years ago, over 30,000 children have been given the chance of a good life. This short experience changed my prospective on the world in a way I never saw coming. The children at Sociedad are the most wonderful, bright, and spiritual children I've ever met. They don't care what kind of clothes you're wearing, or what you look like, they just want someone to play with, someone to hold their hand. These kids live on nothing more than the basics. The 'tias' or mothers if you will, care for the house and clean and prepare meals for the children. For Christmas, recieving new socks and a toothbrush or a new shirt is a dream come true. This is where you fit in...
These women, along with the children need our help. These incredible people need financial stability as well as generous donations to keep afloat, and it a tough economy, its incredibly difficult to manage. Sister Maria's philosophy is never to turn a kid away, even if there is not space, nor money, Sociedad will always take someone in and care for them no matter what.
How you can help: Please donate basics; toothbrushes, socks, soap, kid's shoes, underwear. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated. We appreciate anything you can do to help... from your heart to Honduras. Thank you!
